Samantha............remember too that alkyds yellow - so if your cabinets are going to be white I would stay away from alkyd.

Use the best interior latex - NON 100% Acrylic you can find (100% Acrylics tend to hold applicator patterns)

Ralph Lauren SG and BM Regal S/G are great products - very white - and flow and level well. They are not as good as an alkyd - but close.

Use a 1/4" nap roller - plan on 2-3 coats after the primer.

So - your choices - a very smooth finish that will yellow or a not quite as smooth finish that won't.

Remember too that if you are using a tinted color - go with the oil - you won't notice the color change..........
