In reply to Armstrong furnace Ultra SX90 Corrosion. by Roger in Michigan on May 13th, 2003 08:26 AM [Go to top of thread]

There appears to be a trend here.
My furnace also shows signs of corrosion at the
input to the heat exchanger.
Mine was installed 1/16/98.
Was not aware of the issue until someone brought
it to my attention.
One symptom that maybe others can relate to:
My furnace would call for heat. Blower would come
on. Pilot would light. No positive flow of gas
for burner combustion. Pilot would go out.
This cycle would repeat continuous.
To remedy and heat in the house(Not reccommended)
I would slightly open the front cover to the
burners. With positive air flow furnace would
fire right up. With no knowledge of furnace's;
it makes since to me that the opening in the heat
exchager wall due to the corrosion is generating
a negative air flow. Like I say I'm no expert.
Maybe my symptom will ring true for others.
