In reply to Oil smell after new furnace install by jb on September 22nd, 2003 06:57 AM [Go to top of thread]

I went down this morning and found a small oil leak under the area next to where the filter and line come out of the oil tank in the basement. I'm figuring a slow drip from either the filter or the line connection. They are coming by to fix and cleanup. This will probably take care of the raw oil smell that was seeping through the house.

Question: I can understand that a new system will have a minor odor while it initially "burns off" oil or coatings in the new heat exchanger. This is what they told us the day they installed - that we would smell something the first couple times we use it. Is this normal?
