The header dimensions will be directly related to wind and snow loading for your specific area.

Wind and load recommendations for your specific area are usually found in the codebook for your state/city.

If you live an area that gets upwards of 60"+ inches of snow annually, it is likely that you will need a header made of 4 2x12s bolted together to span this distance with only two support posts.

But it wholly depends upon where you live and the weather conditions how you need to build the header.
