Chemical smells!

I have purchased a futon with the awful smell as well. I took that mattress back and exchanged it for another one, but I am afraid it isn't any better. The manufacturer said they were maid in China and probably could have been sprayed with bug spray! Ugh! I have allergies to lots of things, and chemicals is one of them. I can't stand it, and don't my child sitting on this either. Are there any solutions to getting rid of this smell? The manufacturer of flame retardant said they use Boric Acid which has no odor....okay, where is the odor coming from? Flame retardant, or are the shipments sprayed with bug spray, or the mattress sprayed, or what? This cannot be safe!!!!!
