Wallpapering - Do I really need this "step"? I have a 20 year old house and I would like to wallpaper my dining room. The dining room walls have had 3 coats of latex paint during the 20 years. I read where I should paint the walls before wallpapering with an oil-based enamel paint. (YUCK) This was necessary to form a "hard" surface so that the wallpaper glue would not permeate the drywall and create a mess at the time of wallpaper removal. I was then to paint "sizeing", and then, finally hang the paper. The wallpaper is vinyl and it says it's "stripable" but that could be just from my leg when I go to hang it!
