Hi, Jarren. I assume that you are talking about attic stairs. Because the hardware is a more important part of the package than the wood and not normally available, I think that you would be better off buying a commercial unit. I am also sure that you would save money that way. Aside from the hardware, a commercial manufacturer can afford the jigs to make the woodcutting and assembly a quick and easy operation. You would probably have to build at least some jigs for routing or face some tough set-up with a radial arm saw. If you desire having the wood for the door made from a particular wood or something, you could buy the stair set and replace the door. DIY does not always mean do it better or cheaper or safer.
