Covering Pool Rather than Filling In

We're looking at possibly buying a house, but it has an in-ground pool. A very beautiful pool that could be great in the future, but right now with a 3 yr old and a 2 yr old (and planning more)we have no interest in a pool. B/c of that we probably won't bid on the house. The realtor suggested filling it in. That's one option, but I was wondering if there is a way to cover it for the next decade so as to reopen it and use it when the kids are older. Something along the lines of placing some support beams vertically in the pool and then placing the steel plates used to cover street openings during construction, then putting some soil down and then plant grass. We then have the use of the background and an ability to open the pool in the future. Too crazy?!
