My $.02 says to go with the Minwax. I've heard mixed results with Varathane used on the floor. Because the Minwax is slower-drying, it tends to take abuse a bit more. The Varathane is quicker-drying and harder, thus, it's easier to chip from wear-and-tear. If you're going to put area rugs down after you do the finish, then you could use the Varathane. But if not, I'd go with the Minwax.
