Cure Time vs Strength..... Posted by Dodgeman on October 3rd, 2003 12:39 PM In reply to Need Advice on concrete curing time by Meck on October 3rd, 2003 06:08 AM [Go to top of thread]
What tomk says is true if the concrete is cured, not dried out. That is, if it is covered with plastic or sealed soon after it is finished. If it is left exposed to the air to dry, the ultimate strength suffers greatly.
At any rate, if you are talking about a 3/4 ton pickup with a topper that weighs a few hundred pounds, the total load on the rear tires is minimal, probably less than 1700 pounds. You could certainly back the rear of the pickup on to the slab after 4 to 5 days without suffering any damage to the concrete. At that point, the concrete would be at about 60% of ultimate strength(my chart is a little different than tomk's) The unit load on the concrete is roughly the same as the tire pressure, so if you have 40psi in your tires, the tire footprint and resulting load will be about 40psi. The concrete compressive strength after 5 days will be about 3000psi. Again, no problem.
I would make sure you don't load the edge of the concrete as you back onto it.
Good Luck!
