Hi Rachelle,

I currently live in a victorian farmhouse (built 1890). The only grants/assistance programs I came across were on the local lever. However, they are very restrictive on the ALL repairs, restoration, work you do on the house (sometimes down to the color scheme you can use inside). My husband and I decided not to go with those programs as we would have had to research all the old town archives and prove that our house had elements we wanted to add - all decorative pieces had to have previously existed in the house (including if we were re-paint the exterior, we had to use a color that the house had already been). I know not all municipalities are so restrictive, but they are all quite conservative on what they will and will not allow.

I hope you do end up purchasing the home, they are beautiful and comfortable. I just have some caution about inquiring into assistance programs.

We did end up going with an FHA 203K loan for our mortgage where we financed the cost of the repairs into our mortgage. This was the best option for us as there were no restrictions on the updating, etc. on the house by the local municipality.

Good Luck!!!
