There should be a gas valve where the flexible connector hooks to the gas line. With the valve off, just remove the flex connector and open the valve briefly to confirm gas pressure. You will know right away if you have pressure, and obviously, don't have any ignition sources while you briefly check the flow. Its possible you never turned the valve on after connecting the dryer. On is usually a 90 degree turn and the valve aligns with the pipe axis.
