I am in the process of converting a 3-season porch into a 4-season den. The outside part is done. The next part is insulating the cathedral ceiling. I ripped off the existing ceiling and found 2x6 rafters. I purchased the vents that will run the length of the roof (soffit vent to eve) between each rafter. These plastic vents will take up about 1". That leaves less than 5" for insulation.
I live in MA and I know I need R-values of 30 - 38. That requires insulation in a rafter depth of 10", minimum (even using new "super-batt" type insulation).
What are my options? I've scanned the Internet and found that I may be able to attach foam insulating boards to the rafters in addition to the insulation. Any other ideas?
