Depending on the age and condition of the springs, you may be right. You might want to see if you can find out what the proper tension or mounting-positions should be for the springs from one of the kits in the Home Centers. If yours matches up to the kit's, then replacing the springs would be in order (assuming the springs are the same.) If the spacing/tension is NOT correct, then possibly by re-positioning them is in order (assuming they're the same).
DO read the paperwork to see how best to install/uninstall the springs. You don't want to end up in the ER ... My best to ya and hope this helps.
