Filling in depressions under old house

Posted by John on October 17th, 2003 10:20 AM

I am remodeling an old house (cir. 1897). Ground level under the house is considerably lower than yard level. In the winter and spring, when the water table rises, I have a problem with water seeping in and standing under the house. The water is not running or leaking in, it is seeping from under ground. How could I, or what services are available, to fill in under the house. Note: the house is too large and the holes are to big to sled in sand a few shovel fulls at a time. I had heard of some procedure in which lime(?) is pumped in. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
John
