Futon Smells!

I bought a futon from Walmart... I should have known there would have been something wrong with a futon and a frame for less than $100, but I was willing to put up with the lumpiness of the bars under the futon for the price... I'm not too picky about where/what I sleep on, but this smell is aweful! I agree it can't be safe. I thought it must be the Boric Acid listed on the tag, but everything I've read online says it has no odor. The smell also penetrates a "Protect-A-Bed" water/allergen-proof cover. I'm trying to air it out with a fan blowing on it at full blast right now, but it's making the room stink. I'm willing to put up with the smell in my room for a few hours, if I can sleep without the smell tonight.
