This is not a job requiring a great deal of finesse. Find a corner you can detach from the tack strip and pull it up. The carpet is held down on tack strips along the walls which have sharp points facing facing the wall. Most carpets are stretched and pull against the tack strip keeping it in place, but it is fairly easy to pull straight up once you detach a corner. You may need to remove baseboards if the carpet runs under, or to put down your replacement floor. If you won't be reusing the carpet cut it into manageable sizes using a carpet or box knife.
