If the linoleum is the full piece, you'll have to replace it all, unless....

You decide to apply a pattern with some new or contrasting linoleum until the whole thing wears out.

I wouldn't try linoleum, unless you draw a pattern for the entire floor with newspaper and...make sure you are able to keep the top of the pattern and the top of the new linoleum straight. I've seen pros botch it and if they do, they buy the new piece, not you.
