Hi all; I have recently been searching the net for information on the source of this drill press. I bought it approx. 24 years ago from an itinerant sales group. Drill label reads Allied International and drill is manufactured in Taiwan. The drill chuck is 0-1/2 inch and is labeled JT 2 1/2. I have really been puzzled by this as I find no references anywhere for a Jacobs 2 1/2 taper. I that this designation refers instead to a Jacobs taper of 2 and a 1/2 inch capacity. I attempted to use a small end mill with and cross feed vise. The chuck came loose and scored the interior taper of the chuck and the exterior of the taper on the drill. Not finding a replacement I refinished the two surfaces to remove the scoring and reseated the chuck. It is now 100% better than ever and test holes I have drilled in aluminum show excellent finish. I don't think I will temp fate though and retry the end mill test again. I would like to hear if anyone has any further info on this drill press and its origin. LRU.
