We are building a new home and most all of our ceiling drywall joints have hairline cracks in them. We used mess tape with lightweight mud on all joints. Only the ceiling joints are cracked. It appears that the cracks came about after a cold spell, three nights in the mid thirties. The furnaces were not installed yet but are now. I have several questions. Should we go over the cracks with heavyweight mud or strip the joints back to the drywall and start from scratch? I have had several people make several different recommendations. Should we use paper tape instead of mess? Thanks for any advise.
