RC stand for Active 124 volt for the Cooling and Fan side of the thermostat and RH stand for the Hheating side of the thermostat, so if you only have one transformer say in the heater and you also want the fan control, you will join RC an RH together and you will also need at least three wires one for 24 Volt, one for Heat and one for Fan.
