Well thanks anyway, Henry. I was hoping that someone has run across this situation before. My thought is to use my biscuit joiner and #20 bisciuts with wood glue and 2" fine thread screws. I only have 6 steps to do (it's the up half of the stairs in a bi-level home) and I'm thinking that with 3 bisciuts and at least 3 screws in each tread, it will hold securely.
