My home was built in 1967 with birch cabinets and birch stain. I want to restain with a lighter finish. My first concern is whether the oil base stain used had lead, and is it safe to sand? I have been told to use a one step product made by Minwax because it would cover the current finish with one coat eliminating the sanding. I only needed to clean them thoroughly. Do you have any advise as to whether I have a danger here with lead, or is this one step product good for this? How about the One Step made by Olympia? Any help will be appreciated. I enjoy your shows. Keep up the good work. Thanks, and sorry to bother you.
