If you're going to use a 'saddle valve' on a water pipe, do NOT use a self-piercing type as they clog too easily and do NOT install a saddle valve on the underside of the pipe as that location will precipitate a mineral buildup in it. A saddle valve should be a drill type and installed on the top side of a horizontal water pipe or the side of a vertical pipe only!
