Yes, it is normal to bring in air from outside to supply the furnace, and cold winter air is denser and will contain more oxygen than hot heated air, and why pay to heat it just to send it up the chimney. However, a 2 inch diameter pipe won't cut it, minimum size should be a 4 inch, possibly a 6 inch. Check your local gas company, they will have some literature that will explain how to do it and the sizes needed. EXT
