Generally, instructions will be included with the new stat, but here are some general instructions. First, write down what terminal each wire is connected to on the old stat. Then, remove them, and install the new sub-base to the wall. Next, connect the wires to the corresponding terminals on the new stat. Mount the new thermostat to the subbase and you're done. I installed a Honeywell setback thermostat in about 15 minutes, and it wasn't too tough.
