You really shouldn't use foam insulation. There are caulks out there that are fire rated and I'd recommend using caulking or fire rated caulking over any geocel foam. The reason is that the geocel foam tends to grow a lot bigger than what is desired and can be trouble, it is much worse to remove from carpets or hands than caulking, but neither are clean, be very careful! A caulk gun with a fine point is easier to control around the holes and generally can reach most areas. If you have any trouble spots, you can use a popsicle stick to apply the caulking.

The interesting thing about your story though is that you probably have other problems like poor insulation that may need addressing.
