I grew up in a house that had a drain grate at the bottom of a steep driveway. The 6" drainage pipe emptied about 1oo feet behind the garage. My father never had a problem for close to 30 years until it finally clogged with leaves and sand from the driveway. A cleaning every 5 years or so would have prevented this. We now keep it clean by pushing a 1" black water pipe into it to insure that it is free of debris.
