1/2" space between window moulding and cabinet..what do you suggest?

I have a 1/2" space bwteen the moulding and the cabint and window moulding.have no idea why(moved in not that long ago).the space starts out thin at the top and gets a bit thicker towards the bottom.its to think to get a finger in there(maybe my pinky) so i tried caulking but that only gave me a kinda messt spread out white line.the cabinets are very new so i dont want to take a chance of messing them.any suggestions on what i could do?
