Replacing old tile in bathroom

We are remodeling our outdated bathroom, and have run into a slight problem.We are replacing our vanity and countertop, and there is (was) a ceramic backsplash above it.We have removed the tiles, but the drywall is covered with 40 year old adhesive (Lucky for us it is only 8" high by about 4 feet), so what do we do about the old glue?
