Is there a way to change the color of the mortar on an existing brick fireplace? The mortar is black and I would like to lighten it to a grey without changing the color of the brick, which is the colors of used brick. I have heard of pickeling brick walls with a dilute solution of white paint. Could that solution be applied to the mortar joints only to lighten to them. Has anyone attempted to do this?
