applying wood ceiling Posted by tomh on November 4th, 2003 09:29 PM In reply to Tongue and Groove Pine Ceiling by Gary Shinn on November 4th, 2003 04:52 PM [Go to top of thread]
I have hung many wood ceilings, and they are very accomodating of irregularities. I usually use a 16 ga pneumatic nailer and face nail at the edges then nail through the tounge at an angle. You have to get it right or the T&G won't fit together, but the counter-sink of the nailer means you can make any face nails unobjectionable with a dab of filler. Also, be aware pine has a tendency to warp and can require persuasion to straighten it for nailing. Be sure to maintain reference lines along the ceiling as you go so you don't get all catty wompus by the time you reach the opposite wall. Edges can be trimmed with 1x2, door stop, or crown molding.
Last recommendation, sand before you apply. Pine panels are unevenly rough, and if you stain it will absorb stain unevenly. It will naturally age to a golden patina, but not as dark as cedar or redwood. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
