I have two steel garage doors. (16' x 7' and 8'x 7') I looked for insulation kits but no one had them! I spent a lot of time at the home depot special order desk trying to locate the kit in their books but to no avail. (The person knew about them, but he just could not find it in their book; and I forgot to bring the SKU# with me!) I ended up purchasing insulation and insulating the door all by myself! Installing the foam was only a little more difficult than fitting shelf paper into my kitchen cupboards and I was done with both garage doors in less than 2 1/2 hours! I even found that I could use the 4" x 4' scraps if I wanted! It cost me approx $75 to do it all. (Had I been able to purchase the kit, it would have cost me at least $130)
How did I do it? I measured my door-insulation slots and found that I needed 24 of of the 4'x 24"x 1-1/2"insulfoam that I found at Home Depot. (approx $3.25 each) I simply cut the foam board with a box knife and fitted them into place using and a 3" wide putty knife used for applying spackel to dry wall to manipulate the edges. I did have to trim some of the edges so that I could manipulate them into place,(so there is an acceptable small air gap behind the 1/2" metal trim that holds the foam in place.)
I had researched, purchased, and installed the insulation all in one day. My garage was immediately MUCH Warmer and the job looks pretty professional.
Good luck with your projects!
