We bought this 1100 s.f. home approx. 1 year ago. We converted the attached garage approx. 400 s.f. to a family room and added french doors for an entry way. We have not had good luck with heating or cooling the converted area although duct work was run from the current system. My question is two-fold. The current duct work is some type of round plastic hose similar to dryer venting. Would changing our duct work to regular metal duct add anything to the system that we feel might be overloaded since adding the 400 s.f. conversion? The only info. that I can find on the furnace is that it is a RUUD Silhouette II, approx. 6 years old and it says that it is 6.8 amps and output is 75,000 BTU/hr. If you feel that this furnace should be sufficient to heat and cool an approx. 1500 s.f. home on a crawl space, could you please give me some ideas on alternate heat sources that we could add to the family room? We don't really want the mess of a fireplace and don't have the ability to add a gas fireplace because of difficulty running a gas line with the concrete floor. We're concerned that an electric heater might make our power bill sky rocket. Thanks for any help! Jamie
