Heat Source Posted by Pete Pendley on November 9th, 2003 06:00 PM In reply to Need another heat source by Jamie Kasting on November 9th, 2003 11:44 AM [Go to top of thread]
I am not a heat-and-air man, but I just ducted some heat from my fireplace to the north end of the house using that duct you talk of--From my purchase, there were two types: one had an R value of 4.6, and the other had 6.0--I bought the 4.6 with the plan to cover it with the pink stuff about r-11.
Anyway, I put an in-line blower into the duct. I used a 6-inch blower, but I am going to replace it with an eight-inch blower--the blower just draws 0.4 amps at 115 volts, so it is cheap to run--the key will be whether your furnace is big enough which I would venture to say it is (it just may have to run a bit longer)--I run my blower all times the fireplace is operating, but I would wire yours into the furnace, so it would run only when the furnace is running.
Just a thought without knowing how far the furnace is from the garage or such. Is the attic insulated in the converted space? Good Luck,
