Has been excellent with perimeter systems. The best have perforated drainage pipe completely around the outside of the foundation, with piping leading to the inside to non-perforated pipe that leads to a sump pit with pump. Unfortunately this is best done with new construction.
However, if you are only bothered in one or two specific areas, you might install a pit and pump in that area. Depending on the underslab drainage, the water may find its way to the pit and keep the rest of the basement dry.
