Yes,your furnace should have it's own personal cold air return. When we had our furnace installed, I enclosed it with drywall,& with out the cold air return the furnace had a bad vibration,just use 5 inch flexible duct& run it from the furnace alongthe floor up the wall & outside with a screened dryer vent to keep bugs & rodents out.
