removing wax Posted by Henry in MI on November 12th, 2003 05:09 PM In reply to removing old wax on wood table by kathy p on November 12th, 2003 08:18 AM [Go to top of thread]
Kathy, naptha removes wax but please remember that it is also very flammable. Follow the instructions for its use from the container label and remember also that any rags or similar items that you use with it might be subject to spontaneous combustion if not properly stored or handled.
As far as a new finish, wax is not much protection for wood unless it is a very heavy layer. At the same time, I've never seen an ironwood table. The ironwood that grows in the USA rarely gets big enough to get much of a board out of it. Is this a South American wood called ironwood? Heck, there are 3 species in North America commonly called ironwood. Are you sure that you are not talking about an oiled finish??
