I just bought a welder for my car restoration projects. It's a 220v single phase model with a peak amp draw of 230 amps. I think the service to my house maxes out at 200 amps, maybe 250. I don't think I'll be using the machine on its highest settings.
Question is, do I need a 230 amp breaker or something smaller? Also do I need a separate box, or can I put a breaker in the main panel? I've got lots of room in the main, but I think in OSHA situations a separate shut off switch with its own breaker (I think) is required.
