Removing Paint

In reply to sanding painted floors by Joe De Silvis on October 30th, 2003 11:05 PM [Go to top of thread]

I have been in the wood flooring business over 30 years. My website is http://woodfloorist.com I can't find any mention of removing paint on the http://www.silvienterprises.com/html/products.html page. The edger always creates more heat than the drumsander. It talks about removing finish without guming up paper but not paint.

Generally you need a courser grit of paper on the edger when you run into this problem. 16 grit paper will do wonders and when it really get bad 12 grit paper is the answer. The thing that I stands out to me in your post is that the drum sander didn't fill up. To me this means that you just need a little courser paper on the edger to get to the wood. You can always take out the scratches once you get there.

I have sanded off black mastic, Paint, glue, and even sanded off linoleum. Never have I used a chemical to reduce filling up paper.

I wouldn't have a problem adding a link to the http://www.silvienterprises.com/ website on my site but I would need a little more information than is on the site at present.
