heat pump wiring to thermostat Posted by rponton on November 17th, 2003 10:15 AM
I recently took an old thermostat off of the wall on a house I just bought. When I went to install the new thermostat, I realized I had the wrong type of thermostat, it was not good for multi-stage heat pumps... Oh well, I put the old one back on. When I went to start it up, it did not work any longer. I wrote down all of the wire's colors and lettered posts as I removed them, but when I reinstalled it, for some reason, it did not work. I've found some info regarding what wire goes where, but my problem is there is I have seven wires coming out of my wall: blue, white, yellow, 2 red, and 2 green. How can I figure out what wire belongs to the compressor/ cooling/ etc...? Incidentally, there were 2 identical wire bundles coming out of the wall. Each had one of each color wire in it. One bundle only used the green and red leads. This explains the two colors with two wires each. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
