I am not a pro, but if I understand the Q, it is about putting the bumps on the drywall, so it is not just a flat surface that looks awful????

I use the drywall mud to do the texturing--I use the lightweight cause the other is so darned heavy to carry around--just mix a bit of water into it--trial and error; I don't know how much water I use from time to time that I spray it--it may bne a year or more between times that I spray it.

After it is mixed to what you think is correct--maybe like a thin gravy, so it will run ogff the paddle but not too fast--put it into the gun and try it--if you do not like the way it comes out, just scrape it off while it is wet, and either put more water or more mud to get the consistency you want--I use the second from smallest hole on the gun.

You got a texture gun?

Pete
