leaking basement

oure house is realy old and it has a lot of leks in the basement how do i go about fixing them . my daughters room is down there and she has tried to fix it and it keeps leking we got this stuf that you drill a hole above where the leaking is and insert the stuff in the wall with a calking gun it worked for a little while but then started leaking again. it sems like all the stuff you get in the stores is just a temperery fix. what is more permanent . we are trying to sell our house so we wont to get that fixed before we sell. if you could give us some ideas on what to do we would greatly apreciate it. thanks!!!
