What do you mean by 'inside edge'? Let me make sure that I understand what your situation is. Does your porch roof butt against the vertical wall of your house, or does it merge with the main roof of the house? Regardless, if you do as I suggested with plactin sleepers over the old roof decking, you need to try to allow any moisture to evaporate before enclosing with new decking. You don't want to trap any existing moisture between the two layers.
