perhaps you got the wrong ball. did you visually compare the old one to the new one? if there not exact get the other ball
theres only 2 for delta, they will do what you say if you got em switched
or else you sheared off the old pin and will have to replace fixture, unless your willing to drill old pin and fabricate a new one out of welding rod , drift it in
