leaky bathtub faucet

Dear Bob
I am having asevere leak in my hot water bathtub faucet. I have already changed the washer ,but I have a leaky suspicion that it is more serious than that. However I can't afford a hiway robbing plumber at this time. Could you recomend a temporary solution for now other than shutting off the hot water?
