Plaster to drywall joint problems

I'm remodeling a 45 year old Ranch in Southern Calif. Ever plaster to drywall joint was done with mesh tape and all purpose drywall joint compound. Every one of the joints has either cracked or bubbled under the paint. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good fix for this problem?
