New Light Fixture

Posted by Shanon on November 30th, 2003 09:48 AM

I want to replace a light fixture in my hall (I have installed several light fixtures before). When I opened the new fixture, I saw that instead of the two wires I expected to see (one white, one black) there were four (two of each color). When I removed the old fixture, as I expected there were only two wires coming out of the ceiling.
My question is this, can I use the new fixture by connecting the two white fixture wires to the one white wire comming out of the ceiling and two black fixture wires to the one black wire comming out of the ceiling?
TIA
