Hampton Bay Fan Remote/Light

I have two identical outdoor Hampton Bay fans that operate only with a remote. They have never worked properly. The remote works sporadically and then only when you put the remote only inches from the fan antena. I went to Home Depot and switched the receiver and remotes on both fans and have the same problem. I then tied a conductive wire from the fan antena down along the wall and I can get the fans to work by touching the remote to the conductive wire. This was an ugly but acceptable solution until one of the fans stopped responsing to the remote all together. The remote is fine because it works with the other fan when I switch the number combination.

I don't know what else to do. Anybody have a similar experience? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Joe
