FG question

I've not seen blown-in FG, is this something new or hard to find? Everybody I checked with has the cellulose and several questioned my installing it in an old home with no vapor barrier.

I recently gutted the second floor of my balloon framed 1880's home and considered blowing insulation down into the wall cavities, but decided not to because of mold concerns. I did cut/install 8" roxwool (sp??) bats and friction fit them into the wall cavities at floor level on the second floor for fire protection. Above that I installed batts of fiberglass in the second-floor walls.

We will be re-siding the house in the coming year or so and I've still considered doing something with the downstairs walls as the house is drafty even with new windows/doors. Not sure how much the exterior walls are responsible for though, as most cold air feels as though it's coming in around the base plate.

Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
